Plymouth History: Plymouth started as a Chrysler Corporation brand in 1928 and ended as a DaimlerChrysler product in 2001. It was marketed as a mid-level vehicle but was never very successful. The Valiant and Duster were popular compact models in the 1970s but by 1979 the Volare and Horizon were all that was left.
Chrysler had plans to expand the Plymouth line with the Prowler and PT Cruiser but when Daimler-Benz took over in 1998 they decided to phase out Plymouth. The Plymouth models and Voyager became Chrysler products in 2001.
