Morris Motor Company History (Continued from top)
Morris Logo The first Morris was mostly outsourced parts assembled at the Morris factory. They started with a two-seater and added a coupe and van in 1914. In 1938 William Morris became Viscount Nuffield and merged Morris Motors with MG and Riley to create the Nuffield Organization. Production was stopped during World War II and in 1948 they introduced the Morris Minor. In 1952 the Nuffield Organization was merged with the Austin Motor Company to form the British Motor Corporation. In 1968 the Morris marquee became part of the British Leyland Motor Corporation and then in 1975 Leyland Motors was nationalized as British Leyland Limited. The Morris marquee is owned by MG Rover, which was acquired by Nanjing Automobile in 2005 and sold to the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation in 2007. |
