Studebaker Brother's Manufacturing Company History (Continued from top)
Studebaker Logo in 1959 The Studebaker Corporation started in 1917 when a son in-law, Fred Fish, took the helm. Studebaker built the Studebaker Electric car from 1902 to 1911, offered a gasoline engine in 1904 and also built trucks, buses and fire engines. Studebaker was always the underdog to the 'big three' of General Motors, Ford and Chrysler and despite their effort to compete by purchasing Packard in the 1950s they never made it. By 1956 they were heavily leveraged and by 1958 the Packard brand had stopped production. Then, in 1964, Studebaker closed its doors and sold the Avanti brand name to one of their dealers. |
