AB Volvo started as a ball bearing company and turned to vehicles in 1924. AB Volvo developed many of our current safety standards like padded dashboards, child restraints and shatter-proof glass but never held a strong position in the U.S. market.

1927 was their first year for cars and trucks followed in 1928. The Ford Motor Company bought the Volvo car division in 1998 but Volvo kept 'Volvo Trucks' and then bought Renault and Mack Trucks. Volvo Trucks is now one of the largest truck builders in the world. Volvo Trucks also built White and Autocar trucks in the 1980's.Volvo Cars bought Nissan Motors in 2006.
