Triumph Logo In 1902 Triumph started building motorcycles and turned to cars in 1921. Triumph's first popular car was the 1927 Super 7. In 1936 Triumph found a buyer for the bicycle and motorcycle portion to finance their cars but by 1939 they were broke. T.W. Ward bought the Triumph factory but it was destroyed by bombs during World War II. The Standard Motor Company purchased the Triumph company name after the War and their first car was introduced in 1946, followed by the Triumph TR2 in 1953. Then they purchased Leyland Motors Limited in 1960 and changed the name British Leyland Motor Corporation in 1968. 1981 was the last year for Triumph and BMW now owns the name. |
