Packard Logo The Packard brothers made quality cars that were very popular even though they cost far more than a Ford. And when they went looking for more money to expand they had no trouble finding investors. In 1902 they renamed the Ohio Automobile Company the Packard Motor Car Company and employed more than 80 skilled craftsmen. During the Depression the Packards lowered their standards and mass-produced cars, and sales increased. They stopped making cars during World War II and resumed in 1948. In 1950 the Packards rejected an attempt by Nash Motors to merge in the early 1950s but took a similar offer from Studebaker in 1954, and the Studebaker-Packard Corporation was born. The last Packard was produced in 1958. |
