Kaiser & Kaiser-Frazer History (Continued from top)
1953 Kaiser Manhattan In 1945 Henry J. Kaiser, founder of Kaiser Steel, joined Joseph W. Frazer to build Kaisers and Frazers in the same plant in Willow Run, Michigan. By 1947 the two vehicles were sharing the same body and power train under the Kaiser-Frazer name. Kaiser also sold the 'Henry J' in Sears-Roebuck catalogs under the Allstate name. In 1952 Kaiser and Frazer parted ways and the name was changed to Kaiser Motors. In 1953 Kaiser bought the Jeep and Willys from the Willys-Overland companies and changed the name to Willys Motors. In 1955 Kaiser dropped the Willys and Kaiser vehicles to build Jeeps and by 1963 the company name was Kaiser-Jeep. American Motors Corporation bought Kaiser-Jeep in 1970. |
