Hot Rod History (Continued from top)
T-Bucket Hot Rod Hot Rod may also have come from the term 'hot roadster', meaning unusual, or from the practice of using slightly longer connecting rods to improve compression and horsepower. Today 'street rod' is a common term. The NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) began as a means to make street racing safe. Hot rods are usually built to proven standards and are therefore usually safe and dependable. Hot rods typically have open tops, open engine compartments and small windshields to keep the wind a part of the tradition. The Hot Rod Era began in the 1940's, was very popular during the Muscle Car Era and is still popular today. Most hot rods start as junkyard finds but many are now fiberglass replicas of days past. |
