Black and Red

The M10 2.0-liter OHC inline-four is original to this car.Starts cleanly and idles smoothly after about a minute’s worth of warming up. Given the stock driveline of this 2002tii, it's no surprise that the engine bay looks unrestored. A bit of superficial rust can be detected, mainly around the fasteners and the painted lower engine supports. The four-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly with no clunks, thumps or grinding in any gear. All of the gauges, including the engine function monitors, are still in proper working order.

The Verona red finish on this 2002tii shines brightly and shows no signs of fading or notable swirls, a testament to the car having been garaged when not on the road throughout its lifespan. There’s no exterior rust, although a small area of corrosion on the right-rear shock absorber tower, a common ’02 ailment, was repaired at some point in the past. The body has no other noted blemishes. It’s unclear whether the steel BMW wheels are original to the car, but the photos show no pitting in the finish and only minimal curb rash or slight chipping on the outer rim. Stone guards have been fitted to the headlamps, and Hella fog lamps were installed on the car in the past, along with BMW mud flaps. There are no scratches or cracks evident in any of the factory glass.

The factory front seats were replaced by aftermarket Recaro leather buckets, with black vinyl trim, which remain in good condition, with no rips or tears. The rear seat is factory vinyl and free of rips. A Momo wood-rim steering wheel has replaced the factory unit, and a wood gearshift knob was similarly retrofitted. The factory radio was replaced by an aftermarket stereo system. There’s no air conditioning, but the BMW heater works fine. No interior trim is absent. The crank-operated manual sunroof is operable and does not leak. Carpet wear is reported as average for the 98,000 miles indicated on the odometer. The dashboard remains free of cracks.

The factory power steering has no free play, without fluid leaks. This 2002tii is still capable of locking up its brakes, and the seller adds that the emergency brake is also functional. There is no evidence of vibration at normal highway speeds. To enhance the driving experience, Bilstein shock absorbers were previously fitted to this ‘02. This is an opportunity to own one of BMW’s most important cars in a nicely preserved condition.
