The El Camino was produced by Chevrolet from 1959 – 1960 and again from 1964 – 1987. Although it is considered a pick-up it is different than a standard pick-up as it was adapted from a 2 door station wagon with an integrated cab and cargo bed into the body. The 5th generation was produced from 1978 -1987 and adopted a trimmer sharp-edged style similar to the Malibu’s. Standard equipment was a Buick V6 and the 305 ci V8 was optional. Factory options on this one include a/c (ice cold), power windows, power locks, power mirrors, cruise control, tilt steering and an AM/FM cassette player. The current owner acquired this vehicle in 2018 and was unhappy with the performance of the original 305ci V8. Within the last 1,000 miles it was fitted with a new 350ci crate engine rated at 357hp and 410lbs of torque. At the same time it was upgraded with a list of new parts as long as your arm. Highlights include a performance built 700R4 transmission with an extra deep finned pan and a Ford 9” posi rear end. It is fed via an Edelbrock 650cfm carb with auto choke, an Edelbrock Performer intake and is sparked by a MSD ignition. Exhaust is handled with a set of ceramic coated headers that sound just plain nasty ripping through its dual performance exhaust system. Other new parts worth noting are the drive shaft, rear Wildwood disc brakes, window rubbers and felts, belts, hoses and the battery. It was repainted in its original colors about 10 years ago and still shows very well. When the mechanical restoration was done it also received a new set of American Racing Torq Thrust D rims and tires that really set this beauty off. Well over $25,000 went into the upgrading of this vehicle which didn’t even account for the original cost of a super clean, rust free 1986 El Camino with under 60,000 original miles. That being said this truck is priced to move. If you like what you see we suggest that you don’t wait until it is too late to get in touch with us!
