The muscle car is a typically an American made car with a high performance engine. The original American muscle car was usually an affordable car designed for informal and formal drag racing. The term muscle car also refers to a rear wheel drive, two door mid or full size vehicle with a large and very powerful V-8 engine. Muscle cars should not be confused with pony cars which are smaller than the mid size high performance vehicle.

Today, many of the muscle cars are still raced but some people have come to collect and cherish their muscle cars and rarely drive them.
