    Description
CHASSIS and DRIVE TRAIN: At this time Studebaker did not make their own engines, but the engine and transmission currently in this vehicle have for some reason been changed to a similar period Chevrolet 6 Cyl. engine. The wheels are original and tires brand new.

The exhaust system although old seems to be in good operable condition.

BODY: The body is in excellent condition for it's age and seems to be completely free of any rust other than minor surface rust. The center roof which is constructed of wooden bows and leather fabric is deteriorating and needs to be re-done. The car was originally all black, and now has a well aged paint job which makes the vehicle appear as a taxi cab.

All of the glass on the vehicle seems to be in good condition and does not show any signs of aging or separation.

All of the electrical wiring appears to be in good condition but because the vehicle is non-operable it is impossible for the appraiser to comment on its functionality.

INTERIOR: The seats, door panels and sun visors of this vehicle are Mohair fabric and may or may not be the original upholstry. The padding in the seats is sagging from continued usage. Although the interior is usable, it would need to be re-upholstered before long.

CONCLUSION: The 1927 Studebaker is from one of the very early years of Studebaker production and a time when Studebakers were made in very limited numbers. Very few of this year and model still exist. This is a vehicle which could be very easily restored and should be highly desirable to collectors of cars from that period. Should the buyer wish to convert the engine and transmission back to original these components are available at reasonable prices.

This vehicle has been parked for a minium of 5 years without operation and will require a reasonable amount of mechanical work to be functional. The fuel tank has stale gasoline in it and should be removed and cleaned before attempting to start the vehicle. The carburetor has stale gasoline in it which has turned to varnish and will need to be removed, cleaned and refurbished before the vehicle could be started. The brakes are completely non-functional and would need to be completely gone through.

Because the vehicle has not been operated for such a long period of time it is also posible that seals and mechanical parts in the water pump, and fuel pump may have dried up and would fail to seal properly.

This vehicle at one time was loaned out to movie studios for Hollywood movie sets.

MARKET VALUE:The fair market valuation based on appearance, condition, equipment, current blue book listings and comparable sales of four separate vehicles, would be $20,000.

This is the bulk of the appraisal presented to the owners by Certified Auto Appraiser Roger Cook.
