In 1938 T. A. Peterman bought the Fageol Motors company in California and changed the name to Peterbilt Trucks. Peterman wanted to make chain-drive logging trucks for his own use but they were so successful he sold them to the public the following year. When Peterman died in 1945 his wife sold Peterbilt to seven employees but they couldn't hold on and sold it to the Pacific Car and Foundry Company (PACCAR), who owned Kenworth Trucks, shortly after.
