Great Edsel Classic Cars: Edsel
Edsel History (Continued from top)
1958 Edsel The Edsel was introduced with much fanfare on 'E-Day', September 4, 1957. Ford stock had just gone public and it was the first new model under the new corporate regime, intended as a match for Oldsmobile. This was to be a new division, but only lasted from 1956 to 1958. The Edsel was then merged with the Mercury-Lincoln division and sold through a new string of dealers. The 1958 Edsel came out as a larger Mercury-based Citation and Corsair and as a Ford-based Pacer and Ranger. But for 1959 there was only the Ranger and Corsair. And only the Ranger survived for 1960. Less than 3,000 Edsels were built before production stopped in 1959. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
