1932 Hupmobile  

The first Hupmobile was produced in 1909 and called the Model 20 Runabout. Hupp wanted to make an affordable car and people loved it because it also had quality and reliability and came with a lifetime warranty. More models came out in the 1920s and in 1928 Hupp bought the Chandler Motor Car Company to broaden his line. A Hupmobile finished in fifth place at the 1932 Indianapolis 500 race.

Hupp's strategy for getting through the Great Depression was to buy the time of top designers and his cars won awards for their looks. But a 1937 union strike halted production, eventually bankrupting the company. The last Hupmobile was produced in 1940.
