Autocar History (Continued from top)
Autocar Logo Based on the minutes of company board meetings during 1903-1907 it is known that in 1903 the Board of Directors included the president, Louis S. Clarke, the secretary, John S. Clarke, as well as, James K. Clarke. The Autocar Company was a manufacturer in the Brass Car Era in 1899. In 1907 they switched to making commercial trucks, as they do today. The first car was a single cylinder chain drive runabout produced in 1900. The 1904 model featured a horizontal-mounted flat two-cylinder engine located in the front of the car. It was built from wood and metal and had a tiller steering. 1912 was the last year for cars but the company continued making trucks until they were acquired by the White Truck Company in 1953. |
