DeSoto History: The DeSoto was a Chrysler Corporation brand from 1928 through 1961. Walter P. Chrysler started the vintage DeSoto in 1928 as a mid-priced family car. He purchased the Dodge Brothers Company a short time later and the Dodge and DeSoto lines of cars competed against each other for many years. Over two million DeSotos were manufactured over the years and the classic 1957 DeSoto was the most popular model.
