Books & Publications: There was a day when mechanics were called "grease monkeys" because their willingness to get dirty was more important than their knowledge about cars. Back then the cars and engines were simple enough for the average owner to maintain and repair manuals were unknown. But that was 100 years ago and as vehicles have evolved so have the resources to understand and repair them.

The original sales brochures, user's manuals and documentation that comes with a new car is a valuable part of every antique, vintage and classic car collection. In most cases they were printed in small batches and can therefore be difficult to find. As a result there is an industry of collectors who specialize in such literature, in hopes of selling it at a high price to vehicle owners.

Old aftermarket repair manuals and books are another form of valuable automotive memorabilia to today's collectors. Some are out of print and therefore irreplaceable; some offer rare glimpses at vehicles that can no longer be seen; some simply have beautiful pictures of yesterday's transportation; and then there are the magazines and periodicals that have nurtured the car lover's fever for the past 100 years.
