Vauxhall History: Alexander Wilson founded the Alex Wilson and Company in 1857, which became the Vauxhall Iron Works and finally Vauxhall Motors Limited in 1907. In 1925 General Motors acquired Vauxhall to start their European automotive division but the Great Depression and World War II stymied production. During World War II Vauxhall built tanks for England and after the war car production resumed. In 1979 GM re-badged Vauxhall models as Opels, which continued until the last Opel was built in 1988.
