Bentley History: Bentley Motors Limited was founded by Walter O. Bentley in 1919. Bentley was known for building rotary airplane engines during World War I. After the war a group of wealthy British automobile enthusiasts, known as the "Bentley Boys", did what they could to keep the Bentley in the news by winning races. However it wasn't enough during the Great Depression and Bentley sold out to Rolls-Royce in 1931. The Bentley was marketed as less expensive than the Rolls-Royce. In 1998 Rolls-Royce and Bentley were bought by Volkswagen and BMW became a major source for parts. The classic Bentley automobiles are still being made today.
