Hot Rod History (Continued from top)

T-Bucket Hot Rod

T-Bucket Hot Rod

Hot Rod may also have come from the term 'hot roadster', meaning unusual, or from the practice of using slightly longer connecting rods to improve compression and horsepower. Today 'street rod' is a common term.

The National Hot Rod Association NHRA was started to get street racers on a safe race track and one of its founders, Wally Parks, hosts the NHRA Motorsports Museum to celebrate the history. Today's hot rods are clean and fast with little frills, other than speed. Most have open tops and small windshields to keep the wind a part of the tradition.

The Hot Rod Era started in the 1940's, exploded during the Muscle Car Era and continues today. They started with junkyard rejects when steel was needed for the war effort but today many are fiberglass replicas, sparing no expense for the thrill of yesteryears.
