Dodge History (Continued from top)

Dodge Logo

1917 Dodge Logo

John and Horace Dodge opened The Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company in 1914. In 1928 it became a subsidiary of Chrysler and in 1998 a part of Daimler-Benz. The brothers got their start making bearings for other manufacturers and designed some parts for Oldsmobile and Ford. By 1914 they owned their own company, producing an upscale version of the Ford Model T. In 1917 they started building trucks for the military, which kept them alive at a time when may others were facing bankruptcy. In 1925 the Dodge brothers sold out to Dillon, Read and Company and they in turn sold it to the Chrysler Corporation in 1928. Dodge is now owned by the DaimlerChrysler company.
