Mazda History: Mazda began as the Toyo Cork Kogyo Company in 1920 making machine tools and then turned to cars in 1931. Mazda is famous for the rotary Wankel engine and is the only company in the world that put one in a pickup truck. In 1996 the Ford Motor Company became the majority stock holder.
