Chevrolet Trucks: In 1908 William Durant started General Motors (GM) and then bought the Chevrolet Motor Car Company from Louis Chevrolet in 1915. At about the same time he started the General Motors Truck Company which built most of the their light, medium and heavy-duty trucks under the "GM Truck and Coach Division".
The GMC trucks are sold through all of the GM car divisions except for Chevrolet who makes their own line of light and medium-duty trucks. The Chevrolet medium-duty trucks are cab/chassis combinations that are then sold to other manufacturers who outfit them with utility beds, motor homes, and other bodies for custom applications.
