Peugeot Logo Peugeot started as a bicycle factory but in 1926 switched to cars. He was first to use rubber tires and his cars won the Indianapolis 500 three times. Peugeot made weapons for France during the first World War and Germany took over the plant to make weapons during the second World War. Peugeot bought 30% of Citroen in 1974 and by 1975 had controlling interest, becoming the PSA Group. The PSA group acquired the European division of Chrysler in 1978 but that was a financial disaster. The 1983 Peugeot 205 was a hit but could not compete in the American market and by 1991 they were no longer sold in the U.S.. |
