Oldsmobile History (Continued from top) Oldsmobile Logo The Olds Motor Vehicle Company was opened in 1897 by Ransom Olds and sold to General Motors in 1908. The famous Curved Dash Olds was introduced in 1901 and Ransom Olds left the company to open the REO Motor Car Company in 1907. Innovative Oldsmobile parts produced by General Motors included chrome trim, a mono-block V8, the automatic transmission, automatic headlight dimmers, curved windshields, front wheel drive and the first mass-produced overhead valve V8 engine. But the 1964 Oldsmobile, with a 442 cubic inch V8 engine, four-barrel carburetor, four-wpeed manual transmission and dual exhaust was one of the most popular vehicles, famous during the Muscle Car Era. The last Oldsmobile was the 2002 Bravada. |
