Nissan Motors History (Continued from top)
Nissan Logo Toyota is the largest automobile maker in Japan next to the Nissan Motor Company. Nissan started making vehicles and parts in 1914 at the Kwaishinsha Motorcar Works, later becoming the Kwaishinsha Motorcar Company, then the DAT Motorcar Company and finally the Osaka-based Jitsuyo Jidosha Company in 1931, where the first Datsun was built. In 1934 the company became the Nissan Motor Company. The name 'Nissan' came from the Tokyo stock market abbreviation for Nippon Sangyo. Nissan built trucks, airplanes and engines for Japan during World War II and afterwards teamed up with Austin of England to build automobiles. The most famous Nissan was the 1970 Datsun 240Z which brought the company to world class status. In 2002 Nissan teamed up with Toyota to develop hybrid technologies. |
