Please check back soon! Morris Motor Company History (Continued from top)
Morris Logo William Morris built the first Morris' with mostly outsourced parts in 1910. His first car was a two-seater and in 1914 he produced a coupe and a van. When Morris became Viscount Nuffield in 1938 he merged Morris Motors with MG parts and Riley and changed the name to the Nuffield Organization. He stopped production during World War II and afterwards, in 1948, the company made the first Morris Minor. The Nuffield Organization became a part of the Austin Motor Company and the name was changed to the British Motor Corporation in 1952. Then the British Leyland Motor Corporation bought the Morris marquee in 1968 and nationalized into British Leyland Limited in 1975. The Morris marquee is now owned by MG Rover, who was bought by Nanjing Automobile in 2005 and then Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation in 2007. |
