Mercedes-Benz Cars History (Continued from top)
Mercedes-Benz Logo The Mercedes-Benz has been in production longer than any other vehicle in the world. Under the terms of their merger, Benz and Daimler also built vehicles under their own names. Daimler used a three-pointed star logo, representing the air, land and marine use of his engines and Benz used it too, with some slight changes. Karl Benz is thought to have created the first true internal combustion gasoline engine in 1885, followed by the Benz Motorwagen in 1886. Gottlieb Daimler joined forces with Wilhelm Maybach to produce a similar vehicle and engine at that time. Daimler-Benz licensed their vehicles to the Studebaker-Packard Corporation to sell them in the United States and when Studebaker went out of business in 1966 their dealers were given the option to become Mercedes-Benz dealers. In 1998 Chrysler took control of Daimler-Benz and renamed it Daimler-Chrysler. |
