Diamond T Logo White's interest in building cars came from his three sons and they built their first one in 1901. It was a chain-drive, tiller-steered, steam-powered car. They opened the doors to the White Motor Company the next year, which lasted until 1918. White started building trucks in the 1920s under the Sterling, Autocar, Diamond T and REO names. Later Diamond T and REO became the Diamond REO division and that lasted until the 1960s. White Motors used Freightliner chassis' in the 1970s and sold to Volvo in 1981.
