Description

1938 Plymouth P6 Deluxe

This is a rare car. In 1938 Plymouth made a Business Coupe and also a more expensive upgraded Deluxe version. This version, the Deluxe version, was the rarest and the best looking of the two.

This car has enormous potential. This was the last year they made the extremely cute bug-eye headlights and fat fenders. The car is all original, except for tires and a few things described below. It runs and drives fine. It has a 3 speed on-the-floor transmission. Anyone younger than 50 doesn't know this but these old cars had the starter switch on the floor and it is operated with your foot! The dashboard is all original with the original gauges. The engine is the original 201 cu in flat head six cylinder producing a killer 85hp. It has a new exhaust system and new brakes as well as a new electric fuel pump. I also installed a new radiator and removed and thoroughly cleaned the inside of the gas tank. The car has been licensed to drive on the street and so the original 6 volt lights and horn all function. It even comes with a heater, a rare option in 1938.

The body is COMPLETELY free of rust or dents or bondo (unheard of for a car almost 80 years old). The car will require new paint and a new interior, although the original seats are still in the car. I still have the original door panels which will make the process of producing new ones simple. All the original headliner ribs are present and in good shape. The car comes with many new parts including brand new hubcaps and new side window glass (both are hard to find and expensive to buy). There are too many additional parts to list. Surprisingly, though, parts for this car are still available!

This car was a status symbol in its day, one to take out to impress people. Guess what? It still impresses people. When my neighbor first saw my wife and I driving it, with a huge grin he exclaimed, "What, are you in a time machine?" Indeed, it gets looks and nods wherever we go. I know we're quirky but sometimes we even dress up in old, vintage clothes just to go out and see other peoples' reaction. It's a fun, fun car. This WILL NOT LAST long. $5,975 obo.
