1985 Oldmobile Tornodo Convertible for sale in St. Paul, Minnesota. This is a 1985 Olds Toronado Brougham CONVERTIBLE...yes convertible! Most of you, with knowledge of GM's 1985 vintage, will question this, because GM did not manufacture 1985 Olds Toronado Convertibles. GM made 1000 convertibles in 1985...500 Cadillac Eldorado's and 500 Buick Riviera's. Here's the story, 1985 was the first year Arnold Palmer sponsored a National Golf Tournament. Palmer, then, owned a string of Oldsmobile Dealerships in the South. He had 36 Olds Toronado's (same frame as the Eldorado and Riviera) retro-fitted as convertibles. Palmer used a few of the cars as prizes for hole-in-one's during the Pro-Am, and using others as courtesy cars for tournament players. I have been told that this car is one of those 36 conversions! I have the car's original sticker, plus the work order and invoice for the conversion. It's a very high quality job...the top is "lined". Everything else is factory. The only things I have replaced are the air cylinders that hold up the trunk and hood when opened. The car is mint and must be seen. I have stored the car every winter. I bought the car in 2001 and have put only 1000 miles on the car in the 8 years I've owned it! I put it away for the winter in early October, however, it is easily retrieved.
