Oldsmobile History: The Olds Motor Vehicle Company was opened in 1897 by Ransom Olds and sold to General Motors in 1908. The famous Curved Dash Olds was introduced in 1901 and Ransom Olds left the company to open the REO Motor Car Company in 1907.
Innovative Oldsmobile features included chrome trim, a one piece V8 engine block, the automatic transmission, automatic headlight dimmers, curved windshields, front wheel drive and the first mass-produced overhead valve V8 engine. But the most famous Oldsmobile was the Cutlass, built during the Muscle Car Era, with a 442 cubic inch V8 engine, four-barrel carburetor, four-speed manual transmission and dual exhaust. The last Oldsmobile was the 2002 Bravada.
