Durant History: William Crapo Durant formed Durant Motors in 1921, during the Antique Car Era, after being fired from General Motors. Durant had a grudge against General Motors (GM) and he intended to show them how to build automobiles. His early models had a four cylinder engine with all steel bodies. He also built other cars like the "Star" and "Locomobile" under the Durant marque in an effort to compete with the Chevrolet, Packard and Cadillac. However he ran out of money when the depression of 1929 occurred and by 1932 he was broke and out of business.
